As for the MC's gender, they use masculine titles because of their status. They are considered a man as a social function, even if it's not their real gender. Some people address them with masculine titles for that reason but they know they're not really a man (if you chose not to be a man). Others might actually think they are *really* a man.
Thank you! I like to respond to comments because I'm very grateful to everyone who takes the time to leave one. :) But writing-wise I'm actually on a bit of a hiatus. I've burnt myself out and need to recover and it'll take time, unfortunately.
That being said, I purposefully didn't list the ROs because (for this story, at least) I wanted people to discover them as they play, and choose who to romance in a more organic and immersive way, if that makes sense. I did plan to make a list of main characters (ROs and others) with short descriptions on my tumblr blog, but it'll take time to put together so I've put that on the back burner for now. When I do make it, I'll consider how to include it on here or in the game itself.
Thank you. :) Things can get standardized very fast and while it's not necessarily a bad thing, I find it's healthy to sometimes question those habits and standards to do things in a way that's a little more intentional.
This is really fun! I like the fact that the MC is an unrepentant villain--and that the plot's about him trying to escape consequences. But can he? The writing is gorgeous and period-appropriate; there's no modern speak that sometimes pops up in historical IF.
A bit suggestion if I may: can you darken the font on the light mode? It's a bit hard to read given the background. I know dark mode is very popular, but it actually tires my eyes really quickly so I have to use light mode.
I'm glad you're enjoying the story and thank you for the feedback!
I'll look into the color scheme and see what I can do about it in a future update.
Edit: looking at it again, it's possible the font's weight might be the issue more than the color. I'll still look into improving it, but I would recommend trying out the other font available, it's likely easier on the eyes.
Each relationship option is bisexual and/or biromantic. The relationships might play out a little differently depending on your character’s gender, but they are open to all gender.
Peyrolles is literally breathing air into my lungs right now I love them so much. Honestly, all the writing is amazingly descriptive while still being easy to comprehend, but how the sensations and clothes were illustrated along with the subtle references to the feelings of both MC and peyrolles in the undressing scene was what made it my favorite.
Brilliant, I've played games where you are a villain but can change, but haven't played WHEN they already committed their sins, now I have to pay the price.....or do I?
Nevers.....it was short, but unfortunately, my demons cannot be controlled, well, a shock would be needed, but I guess that's the price I have to pay.....
I can't wait for more! Thanks for the lovely game.
Absolutely in love with this! The writing is possibly my favourite from any interactive fiction i've ever read, it's actually superb. All of the characters so far are very interesting (Peyrolles my beloved fr) and I'm super excited for any and all updates<3
I know Nevers's murder is going to be rough for some people so take care of yourself first! But it being difficult is important. It's a turning point for Gonzague.
Oh gosh, that was gut wrenching to read. You made the characters so human that ever action pick is felt. I don't know how to explain it but it just so god dang good.
Haven't finished it yet, but I love it that you gave gender choices that were actually discussed in the story, instead of simply writing gender-neutral contents. I mean not mentioning gender isn't bad, but mentioning it makes it different.
Thank you! Given the historical context, that's something I felt needed to be addressed and to be relevant in some ways. But hopefully in a respectful and comfortable way!
I absolutely loved your game! I really like the stories when you play as morally questionable characters, but the ones who has a reason for their deeds. so you can see the world through their eyes.
It was kind of amusing to read the novel's description in the wiki, so I could see both paralles and departures from original work. Now I feel I have to read the book just to notice them all.
Characters are the top notch. If Peyrolles is not a RO, it will be a crime of great magnitude! :D
Lovemaking scene with Chartes was great but I really loved the intimate moment about spinet later.
Hi! Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments! I'm absolutely floored and excited to see people wanting to read the original novel lol.
I think there's enough in the current demo to confirm that a potential romantic relationship with Peyrolles is probable yes.
And I'm really glad you enjoyed the scene with the spinet with Chartres! I wanted to have something to soften the moment, to highlight the friendship between Gonzague and Chartres.
The saves are stored in your browser’s cookies. To keep your saves, you need to make sure your browser allows cookies on itch.io and doesn’t erase them over time.
Unfortunately some mobile devices delete those cookies regardless of your settings. I’ve not found any work around that.
If you can play on laptop/desktop, it would be ideal.
I’m hoping it’ll be possible to add a save to file option, but I can’t guarantee it’ll happen as of now. And even if I’m able to add that feature, the save files will be obsolete after each content update.
It'll still be inconvenient when the game gets longer, but I appreciate your patience! If changing your settings isn't enough, I've had people saying things work better with Firefox, if that helps!
nevers aside, i very much enjoy this. the emotion the feels its very real, and the gut wrenching feeling when you found out about nevers? by the gods i cried, the tiredness mc displayed about all of this and the trauma? it all feels very human. 10000/10 recommended cant wait for the next chapter i love it vv much <3 (peyrolles is my fav now)
I really enjoyed this. Honestly. Nevers depressed the hell out of me however. But his confrontation was beautifully written and i felt the pain in it. Replayed with Phillippe and he seems like a character that hides alot of depth and Peyrolles is intriguing aswell. I love playing Male characters so I'm very excited to see how all of this goes.
Thank you for a really really good start makes it so much harder to wait for more lol 😆 💜
Just a question on whether you will add ages and descriptions of the love interests to your page like most IFs or if you hadn't considered that to keep us on our toes and in suspense
Hi! Thank you for all of the nice compliments first of all! <3
I thought about listing the love interests on the game's page, I did that in other games, but I realized it would be complicated to do so for this story without risking spoiling some plot points. And now I actually really like the idea of letting players discover the love interests by playing the game!
As for their ages, at the start of the story, they range between 20 and 25, but there'll be a time gap later on and then MC and the ROs will be in their late 30s/early 40s.
you are wonderful and honestly not mad at not knowing who is an endgame LI at all lol could use the excitement with all my fav stories going on hiatus or dying out. So no spoilers!!
And thank you seriously for a really good read and a very different perspective. I'm a cotton ball fluffy bunny of a nice person so playing someone that is a bit unhinged and villainous was new 😆
GYUHGSJHGDJBJSHBH loved this story SO MUCH. im kinda sad that nevers is married because my mc was so in love:(( but we got a rebound>:) . Cant wait for more.
Okey! This was awsome i loved Philipe <3 LOVE HIM. (Dont care that my MC and him are related at all!). I made a Male MC that went for him after the N thing (Sweet! Revenge!) . My Mc was in love with N ..bUT not Anymore! Sorry not sorry going for youre demise N :) (HOW DARE YOU!) >:D
Hi! Thank you for clarification! I thought the Mc was related to Philippe d`Orleans :D and i was like! at this point i dont object! Since the chapter was so good :3 --> (letting it slide!)
Oh my bad! I see where the confusion must be coming from. Gonzague is not related at all to the French royal family. Their title comes from Italy, their family ruling over several principalties. That's where the title of Prince comes from, it doesn't mean they're related to any royal family.
Love this game, can't wait for the next chapter! but is there any chance that u will play as a female/nb character too? Or this game is genderlocked to male only?
You can play as a woman or a non-binary person as well! Maybe you missed it, but at the beginning, there are cycling links that allow you to choose your character's gender, then pronouns and other features. Click through them until it shows what you want to pick for your character.

I really like Duc Philippe de Chartres. Please tell me he is one of my love interests. I want him 😩
Chartres is aromantic in this story, but you can be friends with benefits with him.
Okay better than nothing xD thanks for the fast reply. What about Peyrolles, is he a love interest?
They're a love interest, yes.
That's great :)
DAMN! And here i wanted my Gonzague with Chartres :////
Are they by chance any same sex love interests? Male/male relationship or something like that?
Each relationship option is bisexual and/or biromantic. The relationships might play out a little differently depending on your character’s gender, but they are open to all gender.
I don't wanna hurt Nevers :(
I'm so sorry :(
Wow this is fire🔥
I guess my character will be like Johan Liebert in 18th century lol💀
That's certainly a way to play them! Glad you're enjoying the game. :)

Thank you so much! I'm flattered! <3
I am already in love with this I am in love with Nevers despite him marrying Aurore (I think that’s how its spelt I forgot) I do not want to kill him.
I'm glad you enjoyed the story!
(SPOILER)
I know Nevers's murder is going to be rough for some people so take care of yourself first! But it being difficult is important. It's a turning point for Gonzague.
oh i absolutely loved this. the pain and the conflicting emotions here were so good!!! can't wait to see what else ends up happening
thank you! <3
Oh gosh, that was gut wrenching to read. You made the characters so human that ever action pick is felt. I don't know how to explain it but it just so god dang good.

amazing game like i said last time but sadly there seems to be a problem with saving, my first and second save is all gone

Glad you enjoyed the demo! Sorry about Nevers. u_u
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This checks all of my list! Historical political love drama? CHECK
Gender-selectable player character titled as a "Prince"? CHECK
VIVID WORLD, BEAUTIFUL STORYTELLING, ATMOSPHERIC PROSE? CHECK
THANK YOU WUF U CANT WAITT!
Thank you! That’s a lot of high praise!
I played and all I can say is, wow, I cannot wait for more
Thanks, I'm glad you had fun!
When it comes to betrayal and anarchy I must admit. I am a petty b!tch. N has no clue who he just f*cked with. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the story!
I'd like to specify, as I said in the FAQ on Tumblr, Nevers and Gonzague are NOT related in this story in any way.
OH! I was a bit confused! Hahah, thank you for the information! Philippe d`Orleans is my fave so far!
I'm glad you like him! I had a lot of fun writing him. :)
Love this game, can't wait for the next chapter! but is there any chance that u will play as a female/nb character too? Or this game is genderlocked to male only?
