Gonzague is an interactive fiction game made with Twine, based on the novel Le Bossu by Paul Féval. It is a court intrigue and swashbuckling story set in early 18th-century France. The game has two versions: this one is rated 16+ for violence and suggestive content.
Story
You are the Prince de Gonzague, a title you acquired thanks to your ruthless ways. Your bloody past haunts your every step and you have taken measures to ensure a prosperous future as well as put away your blades and poisons for good.
You have made some rich and powerful friends in the persons of Philippe de Nevers and the King’s nephew. Now you just need money. Thankfully, the marriage you have arranged with the Marquis de Caylus’s daughter should provide you with the fortune you need.
Unless some unexpected revelations put your plans in peril…

im so very intrigued by this story the way you write is so good! but maybe a small request that we have an option to change font sizes in the future? my eyes were straining quite a bit and Id love to enjoy your story without it!

I'm sorry the font has been causing you eyestrain. I'll look into how I can integrate a couple font sizes in the settings of the game. In the meantime, I recommend using the alternate font, open sans, which is easier on the eyes in my experience, and your browser's zoom-in feature, which should allow you to get a bigger font without interfering with the UI much. It might persist throughout my itch.io profile and my other games if you don't change it back, though.

I'm currently working on chapter 2. I post weekly updates on my progress on the Tumblr blog for all my projects. Updates can take a long time to write, so I would advise patience.

Hello! Chartres is aromantic in this story, so while you can have a close relationship with him, it's not really romantic in nature. It stays a friends-with-benefits type of situation.
